Key technical Design elements

When creating the Tuatara® Camo patterns, we discovered, through consultations with zoologists and experts in the field, that the Tuatara has four remarkable factors that helps with its use of natural camouflage, and ultimately what has ensured its survival for millions of years. Armed with these four animal insights, we’ve redefined what it means for humans to hunt undetected by incorporating key technical design elements into the Tuatara® Camo patterns that will confuse the animal eye and enable you to become one with your hunting domain.

Edge Extinction

Outline Break Up

Tuatara® Camo utilises disruptive colour patterns that effectively break up your outline, so your silhouette vanishes, leaving nothing for animals to pick up. Edge break up is fundamental to how camouflage works out in the wild. We decided to call this Edge Extinction, because like the dinosaur, your silhouette has totally gone. They also thought it was a cheeky little nod to our mate, the Tuatara, who has defied extinction.

DEPTH DEFIANCE

3D-like effect

Tuatara® Camo creates a 3D-like effect where it challenges depth perception. 11 layers of intricate design patterns combine to give a much deeper depth of field, confusing the animal eye and misrepresenting your very presence. In the wild, animals display unique colours or patterns which confuse predators so they cannot hone in on where their prey start or stop. This is most visible in herds of animals like zebras, schools of fish or the unique colouration and patterns on some reptiles and birds.

360° SCALE TECH DESIGN

Confusing from all angles

Some camo use unnatural combinations of patterns. Tuatara® Camo uses a natural blend of peaks, scales and contours. These serve as visual disruptions, so whether you are standing, crouching, crawling or lying, it’s hard for your target to get any sense of where you begin or end. Look at reptiles, fish and birds, you will notice different colours work on their under and top sides to help evade predators or stalk their prey when coming from above or below. In real-world hunting, you are actively standing, crouching, lying, crawling and climbing. Taking inspiration from the natural nodes, spines and scales of the Tuatara, our design team was able to develop a pattern that worked from all angles. They call this 360° Scale Tech Design.

COLOUR FUSION

Adapts with surrounding colours

The different colours in Tuatara® Camo match and draw out the natural colours around you. Stand next to the green of a fern and the colours will fuse to blend you in. The Tuatara has adapted to its forever-changing environment. Our design team focussed on this and looked at the natural colour pantones across a wide range of hunting environments. Once they analysed and found the most relevant combination of colours and tones, they worked these into their prototypes and perfected them over time, to ensure the Tuatara® Camo actively pulled out the surrounding colours and adapted with the changing hunting environments.
